Tara Lucia HayesTara Hayes is a textile artist living in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Her fascination with textiles began as a child when her great-aunt introduced her to sewing. A native of Corner Brook, NL, she has spent time travelling throughout Europe and Asia. Tara studied at Memorial University earning a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Arts in 2009. After working in the private and public sectors, Tara’s craving for expression and creativity ensued. Self-inquiry led Tara to Nicaragua (2015) to complete yoga teacher training. This journey nurtured her self-awareness, inspiration and courage for a career change. In 2018 she enrolled in Textiles: Craft & Apparel Design at College of the North Atlantic and focused her studies in garment construction and surface embellishment (print & dye). Tara was the recipient of the Dr. Anna Templeton Award from the Newfoundland and Labrador Women's Institutes (2019).
Tara is the winner of the G&S Award for outstanding skill in Print and Dye. Tara's curiosity and commitment for technical excellence results in a stunning array of hue and texture on cloth. This award is graciously donated by G&S Dye and Accessories |
I design simple and minimalistic clothing for women. Using natural fabrics and dye techniques, my garments are created to be timeless, long-lasting and sustainable. My inspiration is drawn from the natural beauty that surrounds me, living on the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. My goal is to support women in feeling effortlessly beautiful, comfortable and free. Working with textiles, foraged dye materials and time-honoured dye processes I produce unique pieces connecting texture, colour and pattern.
