Mya Cousins Raised within a military family, Halifax - born artisan Mya Cousins has lived in different provinces across Canada. Graduating from Oromocto High School in 2017, she now resides in Newfoundland, enrolled in the Textiles: Craft and Apparel Design program, studying Apparel and Embroidery/Quilt.
In 2011, a University of New Brunswick summer camp course on hand sewing, inspired her to pursue apparel construction. Her interests include Halloween costume construction, baking, drawing and painting. She also accumulated skills in crochet, beading, dollmaking, machine and hand embroidery. Her work appears in many collections from the program. She is ecstatic to establish her first apparel collection, combining costume themes with everyday versatility. Producing a collage of styles, Mya uses prints, colours, textures and accents while balancing an aesthetic that's edgy and girly. Fashion is her greatest passion, as she aspires to open her own boutique where she can continue expressing and exploring her artistic voice! Mya is the winner of the Telio Award for outstanding design in apparel. This award is graciously donated by Telio for the enchanting one of a kind of May's garments that showcase her skill and imagination with style. See more at: sorrowscollection.blogspot.com |
Graduating from CNA's Textiles: Craft and Apparel Design program, my majors are Apparel and Embroidery/Quilt. My work includes drawings, goldwork, beading, machine embroidery, apparel construction and dollmaking techniques.
Personal experiences, hobbies, musical preferences and emotional reactions, inspire mysterious compositions. Obscure outlets of artistic inspiration often juxtapose my quiet demeanor. For drawing, my aesthetic incorporates surrealism, expressionism and realism. My apparel strives to strut an edgy attitude with a girly flare for petite physiques.
I dislike confining myself within a singular studio. My multi-disciplinary attributes translate my philosophy of enacting open subjectivity, embracing familiarity and oddity.
